Common Issues: Overactive/Short Pectoralis Minor: The pectoralis minor is at least somewhat overactive/short in most people due to spending so much time in hunched-over, shoulders-forward positions (e.g. typing on a laptop, texting on phone, playing video games). This is intensified among weight trainees, who typically do much more training with push exercises than pull exercises I think we can do better using manual stretching in addition to the postural exercises I recommend above for at home. To stretch the pec minor, I have settled on a manual supine technique the combines aligning the shoulder in the correction orientation of the pectoralis minor muscle fibers and stabilizing the muscle by the coracoid The pec minor has one major function, which is to stabilize the scapula. The most popular exercises to add resistance to these basic movements include the bench press, dumbbell press, dumbbell fly, cable crossover, and the push-up. But they're by no means the only options

Exercise Strategies for Developing the Pectoralis Minor

An important step in developing the pectoralis minor is increasing flexibility in this short muscle. Stretching exercises, such as the doorway chest stretch, help open up the pectoralis minor. Origin :-It originates from the, third to fifth ribs , near the costochondral junction . intervenning fascia covering external intercostal muscles . Insertion : It's very difficult to quantifiably say why the pectorals minor becomes 'tight' in the first place as a human being's life has too many factors involved to be completely sure (injury, lifestyle, exercise, diet, mindset ect), but I think it is safe to say that one of the factors that can contribute to a 'shortened' pectoralis minor is consistently adopting a slouched posture in.

The Definitive Guide to Pectoralis Minor Anatomy

As I mentioned in False Carpal Tunnel from Tight Pectoralis Minor — if that muscle is tight it can cause the shoulders to round forward and create pain between the shoulder blades.. If very tight, it can cause numbness or tingling in your fingers, hands, and even up you arm. If very tight it can also pinch an artery leading to the hands, causing poor circulation in them The pectoralis minor muscle arises as 3 separate heads from the anterior surface of the 3rd, 4th, and 5th ribs near the corresponding costal cartilages, as well as the fascia overlying the adjacent intercostal muscles found in the intercostal spaces.. The muscle extends superolaterally to form a flat tendon, which inserts into the medial border and coracoid process of scapula The pectoralis minor (PMi) is a muscle found on the anterior chest wall that directly affects movement of the scapula, an important consideration for proper scapulohumeral movement (see figure 1).It has been suggested that tightness in the PMi can adversely affect scapula function 1 2 3, specifically in limiting upward rotation, external rotation, and posterior tilting 4, leading to shoulder. The pectoralis minor muscle is covered anteriorly (superficially) by the clavipectoral fascia. The Medial pectoral nerve pierces the pectoralis minor and the clavipectoral fascia. In attaching to the coracoid process, the pectoralis minor forms a 'bridge' - structures passing into the upper limb from the thorax will pass directly underneath

The Pectoralis Minor (PM) functions as a synergist of the SA. Both the SA and the PM engage in the protraction movement of the scapula. From the literature it is unclear to what extent PM is activated during SA exercises Yesterdays post was about the anatomy of the pectoralis major muscle and pectoralis minor muscle. The pictures above illustrate classic stretches for pectoralis major and pectoralis minor. The pectoralis minor muscle is a small, flat, triangular-shaped muscle located in your chest. The muscle, also know known as pec minor, is located beneath its counterpart pectoralis major and serves to move both your ribs and shoulder blade. Injury to your pec minor may cause difficulty with shoulder motions and proper rib elevation, and the muscle may be implicated in postural impairments The pectoralis minor is smaller and deeper than the pectoralis major. The muscle fibers of the pectoralis minor originate from the 3 rd, 4 th and 5 th ribs. These fibers travel obliquely (up and out) to coalesce into a tendon that attaches to a prominence of the shoulder blade named coracoid Since a pectoralis major strain (or rupture) has different treatment implications, the correct diagnosis of an isolated pectoralis minor tear is important , , , . Patients with complete pectoralis major tears usually undergo surgery to regain optimal function [15] , meanwhile conservative treatment management is recommended in isolated pectoralis minor tendon tears, as described in the five.

Anatomy. The chest is a major muscle which consists of the pectoralis major and minor. The primary function of the chest is for shoulder transverse adduction, flexion, internal rotation, adduction and extension. The origin of the chest (pectoralis major) attaches onto the anterior of the sternum and the 2nd to 6th of the ribs. The pectoralis major inserts onto the proximal anterior of the humerus A torn or ruptured pectoralis muscle can limit your ability to engage in normal work and recreational activities. It can limit arm use, and may cause significant pain. If you have ruptured or torn your pectoralis major muscle in your chest, you may benefit from physical therapy (PT) to help you recover. Muscle anatomy and pectoralis major pain is included Group A received McKenzie neck exercises, Group B received Deep Neck Flexor Strengthening Exercises and both the groups commonly went for pectoralis minor stretching respectively for once daily. In practice, when using horizontal flexion exercises (such as the pec deck or wide grip bench presses) to train all regions of the pectoralis major, exercise variations that involve peak forces. Effective Exercises. Two effective chest exercises will directly engage the pectoralis minor -- the chest dip and the standing cable fly. The chest dip is a simple body-weight exercise that uses a dip rack that orients you directly perpendicular to the ground

Introduction. The frequency of injuries of the pectoralis major muscle has been increasing during the past 2 decades ().This trend can be attributed in part to increasing cases of sports-related trauma and the growing popularity of weight-training regimens—in particular, bench press weight-lifting exercises The pectoralis minor is a thin muscle located near the top of the chest. It is situated close to the pectoralis major, which is found above the minor muscle. It is triangular serves the purpose of pushing the scapula forward as well as downwards. It is also required to stabilize the scapula during movement The pectoralis major (L. pectus, chest ; major, larger.) is a large, fan-shaped chest muscle. It acts on the shoulder and (indirectly on) the scapula, with its most prominent role being the prime mover in shoulder horizontal adduction. The pec major is the largest and most superficial of the anterior axioappendicular muscles, lying superficial to the entire pectoralis minor

The pectoralis minor is a very important muscle and is involved with many motions of the body. The primary action of it is to stabilize, depress, abduct, and protract, upward tilt and downward rotation of the scapula. The pectoralis minor is also associated with shoulder problems! Pectoralis Minor is a muscle beneath the pectoralis major and known as a little brother of pec major. It lies in the chest deeply and isn't visible, in contrast, pectoralis major is visible in men. Hence, these two are called pecs. Here's a common misconception that pec minor is located in the upper chest but [ A forward depression of the shoulder girdle from the pull of pectoralis major on the humerus often accompanies the pull of the tight pectoralis minor on the scapula. Flexion and abduction ranges of motion overhead are limited. Observing the patient lies supine with upper arms on the table, hands resting palm down on the lower abdomen Pectoralis Major - Common Trigger Point Pain Maps Pec major trigger points are typically posture related but may also be caused by heavy lifting, chilling of muscle in air conditioning, immobilization of shoulder or arm in cast or sling, anxiety and poor breathing, sports overload (e.g. weight training, rowing, boxing, push-ups) The pectoralis major (from Latin pectus 'breast') is a thick, fan-shaped muscle, situated at the chest of the human body.It makes up the bulk of the chest muscles and lies under the breast.Beneath the pectoralis major is the pectoralis minor, a thin, triangular muscle. The pectoralis major's primary functions are flexion, adduction, and internal rotation of the humerus Sherbrooke Complexe de la Santé - (819) 562-0868 - 15, J.A. This is useful for stabilizing the shoulders when, for example, carrying heavy things in front of your body, but can cause problems if th

Lengthening of the pectoralis minor muscle (PMi) during passive shoulder motions and the effect of stretching techniques for this muscle are unclear. The purposes of this study were: (1) to investigate the amount and pattern of the lengthening between passive shoulder motions and (2) to determine which stretching technique effected the greatest change in PMi length The pectoralis minor (PM) is increasingly recognized as a key contributor to scapular control, scapulohumeral, This study and others have shown dynamic changes in the length of the PM tendon influenced by these stretching exercises, which in turn allows for mobility and a greater range of scapular control. 1 This exercise is a variation of a shoulder exercise known as the front raise. By raising your arms across your body while lying on an incline bench, you emphasize the upper pectoralis major, as opposed to your front deltoids, which is emphasized in the traditional front raise movement.
